Reception

Welcome to Reception

We look forward to getting to know your child and helping them to enjoy their first year at school. Miss O'Connor is the Reception class teacher. Mrs Stoner and Miss Pymar support us with our learning.

We follow a wide and varied Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum which builds upon and develops each child’s knowledge and skills. Our curriculum is play based and children will learn through a range of child-led and adult-led activities in both our indoor and outdoor spaces. The EYFS has seven areas of learning and development. Three areas are particularly important for building a foundation for igniting children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, forming relationships and thriving.

 These are the prime areas:

 • communication and language

• physical development

• personal, social and emotional development

The four specific areas, through which the three prime areas are strengthened and applied.  The specific areas are:

• literacy

• mathematics

 • understanding the world

 • expressive arts and design

Communication

Please check our class Dojo pages for regular updates and photographs about what we have been doing in class! If you want to discuss something with us face to face, please do not hesitate to arrange a time to see us.

A huge welcome back everybody. It’s been a great first day back, well done to all the children.
We have already started work on our new topic, 'Localities and Different Places'. Today, we have been talking about hot and cold deserts with a focus this week on the Arctic. Please find attached, our topic implementation plan for this half term.

As always if you have any questions or queries please get in touch.

Welcome back everybody! Please find attached our implementation plan for this half term's topic 'Space'. We have already started learning about some famous astronauts including Neil Armstrong, Mae Jemison and Major Tim Peake! If the children have anything related to our Space topic that they would like to share please send it in.

We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year. Our first topic of 2024 will be Magical Creatures, the plan above details some of the things we will be covering in class.

Autumn Term B

Hello everyone. The children have made a fantastic start to the new term and we have begun work on our new topic, Celebrations. This week we have been focusing on Bonfire Night and Remembrance Day. The above topic plan details some of the learning we will be covering in class this term.

On Thursday, children may bring something from home to share with the class during 'News Time'. This is an opportunity for children to develop their speaking and listening skills. Children may bring: photographs, things they have made, leaflets from places they have been to or materials related to our topic. This term we would love to see and hear about Celebrations the children have taken part in. If possible, we would love to see photos or drawings of these too.

Also going home in your child’s book bag this evening will be a copy of the sounds we will be learning in class this term.

As ever if you have any questions or queries please don't hesitate to get in touch. Thank you for your continued support.

Autumn Term A

The children have done incredibly well with their full first week at school and we have been enjoying getting to know them a bit more. Our first topic is ‘Ourselves, Our Family and Community’, please see the attached topic plan for details of what we will be covering in class.

Over the next few weeks we will begin to introduce reading books to the children. We will aim to change library books on a Tuesday. I will be holding a reading meeting on Friday 29th September at 9am to discuss how early reading is taught and how you can support your child at home. Please don’t worry if you are unable to attend this meeting as I will make the notes available via Class Dojo.

On Thursdays, children may bring something from home to share with the class during 'News Time’. This is an opportunity for children to develop their speaking and listening skills. Children may bring: photographs, things they have made, leaflets from places they have been to or materials related to our topic. We ask that children don’t bring toys in as they get very upset if they get damaged on the way to school.

I am sure your children are all very tired after a very busy week in school. I hope you have a restful weekend.
