Cultural Capital

 What is Cultural Capital?

...the essential knowledge that pupils need to be educated citizens, introducing them to the best that has been thought and said, and helping to engender am appreciation of human creativity and achievement.

At Offley we see cultural capital as simply the essential knowledge that we want all children to have. We appreciate that some things, for many, are outside their daily experience.  We are very good at Offley at spreading this knowledge in a variety of different ways.

We weave cultural capital throughout the school in four main ways.

  1. Through visits and visitors providing different experiences for the children.
  2. Through our whole school current affairs assemblies every Tuesday.
  3. By having a 'wider opportunities curriculum' throughout the whole school journey.
  4. By planning our curriculum together, ensuring that cultural capital is developed and reinforced through our holistic and progressive curriculum.
